Contraband Cigarettes found in Singapore
Asia One - Mar 18, 2009
TOO HIGH FOR COMFORT
Singapore--Woodlands Immigration & Checkpoints Authority officers busted another contraband smuggling case where a bus was used to bring illegal cigarettes into Singapore.
The giveaway was the unusually high floorboard which, when scanned by the Z-Backscatter van, also revealed anomalies in the image.
Officers opened the modified floorboard compartment, which contained a total of 1,484 cartons and 158 packets of duty-unpaid cigarettes.
The potential customs duty and GST payable for the duty-unpaid cigarettes amount to about S$105,600 and S$9,600 respectively.
