- Unique to the industry - 101XL maintains an open-tunnel configuration and extra width to scan over-sized and oddly shaped objects
- Combined technologies - simultaneous Transmission and Z® Backscatter X-ray imaging - providing the most information to the operator about the object under examination
- Z Backscatter technology to provide photo-like images that highlight organic threats and contraband, expediting analysis while reducing operator fatigue
The U.S. Navy knows the AS&E advantage for force protection. The Navy purchased multiple Model 101XL systems to inspect over-sized packages and baggage entering naval bases throughout Europe.
Like several other AS&E's parcel inspection systems, Model 101XL comes equipped with an open-tunnel design that enables operators to scan small cargo and oversized objects.
As with all AS&E systems, Model 101XL combines Transmission X-ray and Z Backscatter technologies to deliver the highest levels of detection of weapons, explosives, drugs, agricultural products, currency, and other contraband.
The 101XL's open design allows thorough, rapid inspection of cargo and packages up to 163 cm wide. The system's platform is effective for large cartons and palletized cargo, and allows easy loading and unloading by forklifts. The 101XL's configuration also allows the scanning of objects of unusual shape or over-sized height.

Image Analysis Features
Density Expand: Density Expand allows the operator to adjust the contrast of the displayed image, thus enhancing differences in objects that may initially appear similar. (System is also equipped with Density Expand Lock, to maintain density setting for successive scans.)
Edge Enhancement: Edge Enhancement is a computer-based algorithm used to accentuate the edges of objects in the X-ray image, helping the operator to recognize anomalies faster and more readily.
Example: Sharpens and enhances thin wires associated with explosives.
Penetration: Penetration of 24 mm is provided. Extra penetration is available as an option.
Reverse Video: Reverse Video allows operators to enhance X-ray images by reversing polarity of white and black contrast.
Zoom: Zoom provides 2X, 4X and 8X magnification options with joystick control to roam continuously through full field of view. (System is also equipped with Zoom Lock.)
