The innovative Gemini™ parcel inspection system from AS&E combines dual-energy transmission with Z Backscatter technology for the most comprehensive threat detection available. The power of the Gemini system lies in its ability to simultaneously detect both organic and inorganic materials with its combination of dual-energy transmission and Z Backscatter X-rays — two complementary, advanced, and commercially-proven technologies. Together they provide the most information available about the contents of a parcel.
The dual-energy transmission X-ray easily detects metallic objects such as knives and guns. Gemini's excellent transmission image quality allows the user to see fine details such as small wires that may be the components of an IED. Dual-energy also provides some information about material type — especially in uncluttered environments.
The Z Backscatter X-ray offers an additional image of the parcel and generates an image in which organic materials — such as sheet, bulk, and liquid explosives, narcotics, and plastics weapons — are bright white. These items are frequently missed in transmission-only systems. Its photo-like images are easy to interpret and also help operators interpret transmission images better — leading to faster image interpretation times and fewer opened bags.
The two X-ray images are displayed simultaneously to the operator.
