AS&E's Integrated Personnel Screening Module™ (IPSM™) is an effective checkpoint solution for screening people and their belongings. All of the IPSM components are contained within a 20 foot container for easy relocation as needs change. The IPSM includes a SmartCheck™ personnel screening system for scanning people and a Gemini™ parcel inspection system for scanning their bags. The module also incorporates a radiation portal monitor that alarms on the presence of radioactive materials.
The systems are located in a container, and the operator is located remotely for personnel safety. The doors are remotely controlled to allow entrance and prevent exit until the screening has been completed. The Integrated Personnel Screening Module has been deployed at military checkpoints to inspect people and their belongings for improvised explosive devices.
INTEGRATED PERSONNEL SYSTEM
The SmartCheck system uses Z Backscatter technology to scan people for all types of threats concealed under a person's clothing, including guns, composite weapons, metal and ceramic knives, and plastic and liquid explosives. SmartCheck images provide the operator with information on the shape, size and location of potential threats. Due to concerns about privacy for scanned individuals, a privacy image is available to ensure privacy and display threats. SmartCheck is safe for operators and scanned individuals; the radiation dose from a single scan conforms to requirements set by ANSI and is equivalent to two minutes of airplane flight at altitude.
INTEGRATED BAGGAGE SYSTEM
The Gemini system is designed to scan the personal effects of people being screened with the IPSM. Gemini provides additional capabilities above those of conventional parcel X-ray machines through its combination of transmission X-ray with Z Backscatter X-ray. High resolution, dual-energy transmission X-ray images are useful for detecting metallic threats, such as guns and knives, as well as detonators and wires that could indicate an improvised explosive device. Z Backscatter X-ray images can improve the ability to detect explosive materials. Z Backscatter also helps operators more quickly and more accurately differentiate objects in bags for faster determination of threats from non-threats.
