AS&E Classroom Training: AS&E instructors utilize classroom theory and hands-on training to help clients become expert users of AS&E equipment. Class sizes are small, allowing for discussion and a high level of interactivity. Sessions take place at AS&E Headquarters or in the field.
Classes

INITIAL OPERATOR / IMAGE ANALYSIS TRAINING (IOT)
Initial Operator/Image Analyst Training (IOT) is available for all of AS&E’s equipment, is designed for new users of AS&E gear, and covers such topics as general safety, radiation and X-ray safety, basic radiation and X-ray theory, detailed system operations, and basic image analysis. Students interact closely with the AS&E Instructor, receiving personalized attention during the training to promote efficient and effective learning. Students are assessed by the Instructor through practical, hands-on examination and by written test. Students successfully completing the training receive an Operator’s certificate, valid for a period of two years. Class size and duration varies depending upon the type of equipment being trained upon. IOT is included with the purchase of certain types of AS&E equipment for a limited number of students (see your AS&E sales representative for details), and IOT for additional students may be purchased separately. Instructor led IOT is scheduled through the AS&E training department, and should be scheduled as closely as possible following equipment installation. Additional IOT may be purchased whenever required, such as when new Operators are hired.

SERVICE & MAINTENANCE TRAINING (SMT)
Service & Maintenance Training (SMT) is offered to select end-users wishing to independently service and maintain the AS&E equipment they own.

Individuals nominated by the end-user to attend the training must have demonstrated ability and experience in the field working with capital electromechanical equipment. Admission of a student to the course is at AS&E’s discretion. Class size is limited to 3 people to ensure the best possible interaction between the student and Instructor.

CUSTOMIZED TRAINING (CST)
Specialized training specific to the needs of the customer can be accommodated on a case by case basis. If a course is desired that doesn’t fit the descriptions noted above, then AS&E may be able to tailor a course with material specific to the requirements of the customer. Also, existing AS&E training courses can be modified and branded to match the specific and unique training structure of the end-user, making it fit seamlessly into other courses that might be offered by the customer.

TRAIN-THE-TRAINER (TTT)
Train-The-Trainer (TTT) certifies individuals to act on behalf of AS&E as a Trainer to deliver Instructor led Initial Operator/Image Analyst Training and to certify Operators. The course is designed for experienced, currently certified Operators of AS&E systems having prior training experience. During the course, the AS&E Instructor will review the Initial Operator/Image Analyst Training course in detail, provide an in-depth understanding of system operation beyond that required of the average user, and interact with the new Trainer to ensure that both the classroom and hand-on portions of the Initial Operator/Image Analyst Training material are clearly understood, enabling the Trainer to better respond to students’ questions. Additionally, all training material for the system are provided, including PowerPoint presentations and manuals in electronic format. The course is not designed to impart the platform skill set required of a professional trainer; rather, it is assumed that students taking the TTT course are seasoned instructors. Class size is limited to 3 people to ensure the best possible interaction between the student and Instructor.

COMPUTER BASED TRAINING (CBT)
New in 2008 is a Computer Based Training (CBT) course for use with newer Gemini parcel scanning systems. This CBT is designed for a new user of the Gemini system, and can also be used as “refresher” training for experienced Operators. The self-paced CBT is installed on a Windows-based computer, guides a student through the same topics covered in an Instructor led Initial Operator/Image Analyst Training, and on-screen tests will allow students to gauge their comprehension of the lesson topics. The CBT offers a cost-effective means of relaying basic system operations and X-ray information whenever needed. Contact the AS&E Training Department for further details. Note: The CBT is not intended as a substitute for a Gemini Instructor led Initial Operator/Image Analyst Training course; students do not receive a Certificate upon completion of the course, and individual student progress reports are not generated by the CBT.
