Within the framework of systematic and intensive inspections carried out by the Hellenic Coast Guard to fight organized crime, a 49 year old non Greek driver of a lorry with a trailer was arrested early this morning at the gate of the port of Igoumenitsa for ships sailing abroad by staff of the relevant Port Authority. During an inspection by officers of the mobile X-RAY detection unit of the Central Port Authority of Igoumenitsa, twenty (20) packages were detected on the roof of the tractor and behind the wallpaper lining, possibly heroin, with a total gross weight of approximately eleven kilograms and two hundred and ninety grams (11,290 kg).
The Central Port Authority of Igoumenitsa, which is conducting the preliminary investigation, seized the lorry as well as the aforementioned amount of drugs during the flagrante procedure.
